iOS 6: Notes and Reminders to iCloud

It appears to be that Apple is testing a revised iCloud portal at beta.icloud.com that shows two addition icons for Notes and Reminders. In the most recently iCloud.com portal, you only see icons for Mail, Contacts, Calender, Find My iPhone, and iWork. Now you get those icons and Notes and Reminders. What does Apple have in store for us?

As we see, it’s still in beta and we don’t know what’s going to happen. Unfortunately, attempts to log in through the beta portal have been unsuccessful, as well as access to the portal becoming intermittent. Apple may be working on a significant enhancement to the iCloud services. Just a few days ago we saw  notifications being tested on the regular iCloud.com.

iPhone Represents Over Half of Verizon’s Smartphone Sales

Today, Verizon announced that they activated 3.2 million iPhones during the first quarter. According to Verizon, that’s over half of their smartphone sales and activation’s. In the previous quarter, the number is down 4.3 million iPhone which was part of Apple’s record-setting launch quarter.

Apple continues to rule the world of smartphones. After launching the iPhone 4S in China and expanding to China Telecom, Apple should maintain a strong iPhone momentum.

In the first quarter, Verizon managed to sell 6.3 million smartphones. If you do the math, the iPhone continues to represent over half of the carrier’s smartphone business. Do you think the iPhone will eventually slow down for continue to grow over the next year. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Apple Store Told to Replace White iPhone 4 with iPhone 4S Models Due to Constraints

If you own a white iPhone 4 and are looking for a white iPhone 4S, you may be in luck when you take a trip to the Apple Store Genius Bar. Let us clarify a bit better for you. If you own a white iPhone 4 that needs hardware replacements, you may be lucky enough to get the white iPhone 4S. According to many sources, Apple has notified Apple Store Genius Bars that the inventories of white iPhone 4 16GB replacement units are heavily constrained. Until further notice, stores lacking the white iPhone 4 16GB replacements units should upgrade customers to a refurbished white iPhone 4S 16GB.

Of course, not all Apple Stores are lacking replacement units so don’t get your hopes up. If you are lucky enough, you may receive an iPhone 4S 16GB refurbished model. Of course, the iPhone would be white featuring Siri, an A5 Chip and an 8MP Camera. Our sources specifically stated that this pertains mainly to Apple Stores in the United States and Canada. We currently haven’t heard anything about other countries or regions.

If you have a white iPhone 4 that’s been acting up, this may be the time to go “fix” it. You just may be lucky enough to receive an iPhone 4S.

If you went to the Apple Store Genius Bar in hopes to get an iPhone 4S, what are your stories? Leave them below in the comments.

Sprint’s Unlimited Data Plans to Include LTE

Even though Sprint doesn’t have great service and is behind major U.S. carriers, Sprint has some competitive plans that are hard to turn down. It looks as if Sprint is preparing one advantage, unlimited data for LTE devices!

TechHog was the first confirmation when they noticed the carrier was promoting LTE and unlimited data for the LG Viper. Although we don’t know for sure if the LG Viper will be LTE, it does seem likely it will be the first LTE device on Sprint’s network.

LG Viper pairs perfectly with our unlimited data plans to bring customers the benefit of new technology, including our upcoming 4G LTE capabilities at a great price,” said David Owens, vice president-Product Development, Sprint.

The quote above is from Sprint’s LG Viper press release. Later, Spring representatives confirmed to TechHog and Engadget that the carrier would include LTE data in its unlimited “Everything” plans.

With Sprint holding such cheap plans that include a lot more than the popular U.S. carriers, would you be willing the make the switch? Do you think Sprint is smart for this move?

Does the new iPad tell us about the next iPhone?

With the 3rd Generation iPad (The New iPad) getting a pretty good overhaul of new specks, this makes me wonder what’s in store for the next generation iPhone. The physical aspect of the new iPad didn’t change much, if at all. Some amazing things worth mention are the Retina Display, A5X Processor, and LTE. With a higher processor and better mobile technology in the iPad over the iPhone, what’s next for the iPhone?

I have compiled a list of what we might expect to see on the (new) iPhone if we follow the trending list of the new iPad.

Display

With the iPad receiving an all new Retina Display, it makes me wonder if the next iPhone will include an ever better screen resolution. The iPhone 4S already has the leading screen resolutions for a smartphone, do you think it could get better? Sure, the new resolution is HUGE on the iPad, but how great would it be to get an even better resolution on the iPhone.

Processor

Can you believe the new iPad has been rolled out with a better processor than Apple’s iPhone? In terms of better, I mean in a graphics standpoint. I really see Apple implementing a better processor to handle better graphics. Can we expect to see the iPhone with the all new A5X Processor like the iPad?

LTE

What’s LTE? To keep it short, we will go with 4G! The all new iPad has received a huge update with receiving 4G capabilities. This caught everyone off guard, including myself. With the iPad getting such an amazing update, I really see a high likelihood of Apple making the new iPhone LTE compatible. You may have noticed AT&T getting 4G with the new iOS 5.1 update, but is it “true” 4G?

Although this list isn’t a huge list, it’s something to keep in mind when the iPhone is getting announced. As we all know, Apple strives at being the best they can be. With the new iPad just being released with better specs than the iPhone, what can we expect when the new iPhone arrives? Let us know in the comment section.

Top 5 Mobile Social Networks

With Social Networking on the rise, many people probably think about the popular sites of Facebook and Twitter. Although these are two of the world’s leading sites, what about Social Networking sites that are specifically designed for your smartphone?

Today I’m going to give you my Top 5 Mobile Social Networking sites that you can use for your smartphone. Most of these applications are design for the iPhone but in some cases, they are cross platform.

Instagram

Instagram is one of the most popular social networks on the mobile device, but it’s restricted to just iPhone users. Instagram is a must-have application for all iPhone users. Instagram is a social network that allows you to turn ordinary photos into stunning photography. You simply take a photo, choose from over 15 filters, upload the photo to Instagram and choose whether you want to push it to Twitter or Facebook. With over 14 million users, Instagram is definitely a must have. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, what are you waiting for? Instagram is free!

FourSquare

This mobile social network is also one of the world’s most popular social networks for mobile users. If you don’t own an iPhone and wish to use this application, you’re in luck. Luckily, FourSquare is a cross platform application for smartphone users.

At first glance, FourSquare is a simple concept; simply use the application whenever you visit a place. Whether you’re visiting a store, a park, your office or any other destination; use the “check in” feature to check in to your location. You may also add photos to your location, add a tip, push your location out to Facebook/Twitter and of course, gain points. Don’t leave with just that, you are also awarded mayorship of locations if you have checked in to that spot the most. You will always be awarded “badges” if you do certain tasks. Those tasks are unknown, so make sure you’re an avid user of FourSquare. Oh, did I mention that FourSquare is free!

Oink

If you’re on the iPhone and you love FourSquare, chances are high that you’ll love Oink. Oink’s theory was designed and developed by Kevin Rose. Instead of “checking in” to locations, you have the ability to review places, but things at those places – such as a specific type of beer at a bar or an item on a menu.

Just like FourSquare, Oink has integrated a way for users to gain points and unlock more features. If you’re interested in Oink, don’t worry, this application is also free!

Pinterest

Pinterest is a fairly new application for iPhone users that lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find in your life on a personalized Virtual Pinboard. Many people have used Pinterest to play their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. In theory, Pinterest is a lot like FourSquare but instead of posting one photo on a timeline, you can create a virtual pinboard. If you’re interested in this application, it’s free and only available to iPhone users.

Skout

Last on the list is Skout. Skout is basically an application that you can meet new singles in your area. Essentially, Skout is a free dating service. I’m not a user or a fan of this application, but if you decide to try it out to find a date or make new friends, always be safe and meet in a public location. I am NOT responsible for your stupidity. Good news, Skout is a free application download!

This is my top 5 list for mobile social networking. Do you use any of these applications? Which one is your favorite? If you have any others that you wish to add to this list, please feel free to leave them in the comment section.

iPhone 4S First Boot

The temptation of creating this video once I unboxed it was killing me.  You better believe that I have dedication to all of my fans!  The iPhone 4S has been my favorite phone that I have used, to this date.  I was excited to unbox it for you all but I’m even more excited to show you my first boot.

The set up process was a lot easier than I was expecting.  Minus all the jumps/cuts during the video, it took a total of 10 minutes to have my phone up and running.  Apple did all of my activation for me so I didn’t have to call my cell phone provider.  Apple makes all their products for simple to use and set up.  This is one of the main reasons why I love Apple.

I hope you enjoy my First Boot of the iPhone 4S.  Expect a lot of videos in the near future.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

Unboxing: Black iPhone 4S 16GB

I have finally got my hands on the iPhone 4S and I’m already a very proud owner.  I’ve literally been wanting this phone since day one but I haven’t had the money or the upgrade to do so.  Now that I finally have my hands on it, it’s time to give you all an unboxing.  I purchased the black 16gb model.  I didn’t feel the need to get the 32gb or 64gb model as it’s my phone.  I’m not really going to put music on the device.  If I want an MP3 player, I’ll continue to use my iPod Touch.  I only use devices like the iPod in the car.  Regardless to say, enjoy my unboxing and make sure you stay to the complete end where I show you the device.

Pay for your Starbucks with your iPhone in the U.K.

Back in 2010, Starbucks released their official application that lets us Americans have the option to pay for our Starbucks coffee with our iPhone.  The makers of this applications promised people in the U.K. that they would be able to use this.  Staying true to their word, Starbucks has now updated its official application for the iPhone to allow U.K. customers to pay for their coffee.

Users can link the iPhone application to their Starbucks card to allow faster payments.  This eliminate time at the cash register and makes the line go a lot faster.  One in five customers are said to already be using a Starbucks card in the U.K.  This means that this new service is set to be a huge success.

The new update of the application is available for download today and if free to download.  It also allows you to manage your Starbucks card on the go.

Have you had the luxury to pay for your coffee using your iPhone yet?  Will you be doing this option to help lines go quickly?

When Not to Tweet

We all live in a society where people have adapted to Social Media.  We all can’t go more than 30 minutes without checking various sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Often times we are sitting in a chair staring at a screen attached to our desktop or laptop but often find ourselves staring at our 3-4” smartphone screen.  While this is a great way to stay connect with friends, family and coworkers, there are appropriate times where we shouldn’t be using the device.

While growing up in the generation of cell phones and watching Smartphones come to market, it’s easy to forget how rude it is to be glued to your phone.  Honestly, they should have never made a phone that connected to the internet.  Think about it, if they never made a smartphone, where would we be today?  I know that’s a broad question but sometimes I feel as if Smartphones destroy us as an individual.

Now that Smartphones are on the market and are more prominent, I tend to see people constantly glued to their device.  While sending texts and checking email is very common, I have noticed more and more people on Facebook and Twitter then in their SMS/MMS and email inbox.  Could social media be breaking our society and changing people or is it really helping?

Now yes, if you use Social Media in its proper form, then no harm can be done.  Using Social Media in its proper form will give us more knowledge and may actually help us succeed in life.  Using Social Media too much could possibly break us as a whole and you may actually lose basic people skills.

I plan to outline some situations where it probably isn’t in your best interest to be on Social Media.  Believe it or not, there are times where taking out your phone to check certain things are rude.

School

It’s typical to see teenagers on Facebook and Twitter while they are in class but shouldn’t you be focusing on your school work instead of connecting with friends?  I couldn’t tell you the amount of times that I have seen Tweets like, “in 3rd period” or “why is math so boring today?”

Kids, you’re at school to receive education to make a living in a good life.  Don’t ruin it by being addicted to Social Media.  Trust me, the outcome could be life changing and you can’t go back in time to fix things.

Some schools have a strict policy about the use of cell phones in general.  I grew up in a schooling system that if you had your cell phone out and the teacher saw it, you had to automatically give up the phone to the teacher and serve detention to get your phone back.  If you decided to be hot head about it and not give up the phone, you would get suspended and wouldn’t get your phone back until a parent or guardian came into the office to pick it up.  Some schools may or may not be as strict but why risk it?  Just don’t use your phone in a learning environment.

Movie Theater

Even though movie theaters are starting to put a crack down on cell phone use, I’m still amazed at how many people glair into their phone during a Movie.  There is no movie on the face of this earth where you have to let your friends know what is going on every second?  The great thing about the internet is you can tell them a full review of the movie once it is finished.  If you feel that shining that bright screen and getting others around you angry is going to benefit you, think again.  Be on high alert because you never know who is going to come and snatch that phone from you or give you a thump for pissing them off.

Many movie theaters have been putting a smack down on their cell phone policy.  You will find that many theaters have a policy in place where you get one warning, and then you’re ejected without a refund.  Movies aren’t cheap anymore so why risk wasting the $10+ you just spent to watch a movie.  Do us all a favor and wait to tell your friends how amazing the movie is until it’s complete.

While Driving

You would think this would be common sense if texting and driving is banned in most areas of the US but people won’t listen.  They don’t make this rule for no reason.  Texting and driving is the same as Tweeting and driving.  You are still typing on a handheld device and a cop will think you are texting anyway.  Not to mention, this is highly dangerous to you and the surrounding others.  Why would you want to put your life and other people’s lives in danger?

Honestly, we don’t need to know that there is traffic or that you’re sitting at a red light watching a homeless man walk by.  There is nothing more important than the road while you’re driving.  Sure, you might be willing to take the risk for yourself, but imagine what could happen if you crash into a vehicle with a child on board.  I’m a father and I take extra precaution on the road.  I would never do anything to put the lives of other people at risk.  That just isn’t a brilliant idea.

Smartphones are called Smartphones for a reason.  In fact, many phones these days have the technology to interact with your car so you never have to look at them.  You can do things like play music, take phone calls, make phone calls, and much more all through the car’s speakers or another external device.  Keep it safe and use a hands free device if you NEED to send something out.

During an Interview

Common sense tells us this should be a no-no from the start and shouldn’t have to be said, but it happens.  If you’re going in for an interview, never have that phone in hand.  In fact, just leave it in the car or at home.  If you want a job, having the phone in hand is the worst thing you can do.  It demonstrates that you’re easily distracted.  During your waiting period, it still shows a lot.  Spend that time reviewing your notes, going over your interview, or just be patient.

Actually being on your phone during the interview is even worst.  We don’t need to know this guy has a chipped tooth or has a shaved head.  You need this job to make a living, why are you ruining the opportunity by letting your followers know what he looks like or why he smells.  Seriously, we just don’t care.

On a Date

When I was in the days of taking a lovely lady out on a date, I HATED when they would spend 75% of the time on their phone.  I’m taking you out on a date to get to know you and spend time with you.  Spending it on your phone wouldn’t be the best impression.  A lot of dates now-a-days are set up through Social Media but don’t use Social Media once you’re on the date.  People don’t need to know how cute the other person is right away.  You can wait until after the date to let us know how it went.  It’s common courtesy.

The list of times when not to Tweet or use Social Media could go on and on.  For what it’s worth, please take my advice then next time you do anything that I have mentioned.  Before you ever take your phone out to make a Social Media post, think to yourself; is this a rude time to use my phone?  If the answer is yes, keep it in your pocket and find something new to do.  Being in the world of technology as my job, it’s difficult not to use my phone.  I can be held accountable for doing most of these violations and I’m sure you’re just as accountable.  Let’s try and be a changing aspect and set the right example.

What would you add to this list?  Do you do any of these things without even noticing?

CES 2012: Verizon CEO Cancels Appearance

CES 2012 is getting ready to kick off in just a few days with high known companies.  One of those companies that will be there is Verizon with their CEO Lowell McAdam.  Wait…not anymore.  Let me clarify, Verizon will be there but the CEO Lowell McAdam will not be able to attend the keynote to address his companies plans.

McAdam was scheduled to speak on Tuesday morning at 11AM.  The CEO had to cancel his appearance at the annual trade show in Las Vegas due to a conflict which is unknown to the public.  Don’t be too worried, Verizon is currently securing another executive to speak at the event.  At this point in time, we are unaware of who this might be.

This makes many people wonder if companies are starting to pull away from the biggest event of the year for gadgets.  This is the second big announcement from a well known company for CES.  Microsoft announced that 2012 would be the last year they make their appearance in the keynote address.  McAdam could have just made a scheduling mistake but who knows.  Verizon has had a very high showing and high profile presence at CES in years past.  This has to make people wonder, just a slightly

What do you think about CEO Lowell McAdam not showing?  What do you think about these “high profiles” not making a showing at CES?

G-SHOCK Watch To Tell You Who’s Calling, Texting & Emailing Your Smartphone

If you’re any bit human then you’ll be a typical person who HATES to pull their smartphone out of your pocket just to check that new email only to find out that it wasn’t worth the effort.  How awesome would it be if we could have a watch to tell us who’s calling, texting and emailing our smartphone?  With Casio’s upcoming G-SHOCK watch, this won’t be a problem.  In fact, this smart watch will be able to do much more than tell us who’s calling, texting and emailing.

Casio plans on calling this watch the G-SHOCK GB-6900 which plans to launch on March 16, 2012.  At a quick glance, this watch looks like every other G-SHOCK watch.  As we all know, there is some pretty impressive features that sets this watch apart from any other watch on the market.

The GB-6900 connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth LE (low energy) to display incoming alerts.  These alerts include phone calls, text messages and emails but also gives you the ability to silence your device’s ringer without having to take your smartphone out of your pocket.

Before going out and spending the money on this watch, make sure that your smartphone is compatible with it’s Bluetooth 4.0.  Bluetooth 4.0 isn’t widely available on today’s smartphones.  In fact, many resources have claimed that the only devices it is currently compatible with are the Medias LTE N-04D and Medias PP N-01D Andreoid handsets from NEC.

The upside for the watch using Bluetooth 4.0 is that it consumes a fraction of the energy/battery of other bluetooth versions.  Casio claims that the watch itself will run for around two years on a single CR2032 button battery.  For using bluetooth all the time, that’s an incredible lifetime for a battery.

The GB-6900 was due to launch in December for this past holiday season.  Due to flooding in Thailand, the release date was pushed back to March 2012.  The launch price will be set at about $230.

What do you think of the Casio G-SHOCK GB-6900?  If you have a Bluetooth 4.0 device, would you be willing to purchase it?  Leave your thoughts in the comment section.

Best iOS Apps of 2011

This year in mobile technology was a revolutionary change.  Many new phones were released that had applications that were available for downloading and purchasing.   I give you my top 5 applications for the iOS device that I feel topped them all in the year 2011.

Metal-backed iPhone 5 Rumor Strikes Again

How many of you would believe me if I said that Apple plans on releasing the new iPhone 5 with a metal backing?  Of course, this would be a rumor that has hit the surface once before so many people will probably just brush right over this posting.  According to a closed source (which we will call Joe Bobaloo), Joe Bobaloo posted a list of new features which includes the new metal backing to an updated iPhone 5 which is due to release next Fall.

According to Joe Bobaloo, the new iPhone 5 (if they call it that) will feature an entirely new physical structure of the iPhone which includes this new aluminum backing and a “rubber or plastic material” along the edges that will bridge the front and back of the device.

As many are probably aware, this isn’t the first case of seeing this backing for the future iPhone.  A 9to5Mac report in March said that Apple was cooking up a model with a flat metal back.  As we all saw, Apple decided to mainly update their software and keep the physical structure of the phone the same.  Do you see a trend?  They did this with the iPhone 3 and 3GS.  Maybe this will mean that the new release if the iPhone (5?) will be a completely new redesign like the past.

Will Apple keep this strong and continue with the recent trends or change it up?  What do you think about having a metal backing to the new generation iPhone?  Do you think this would help keep the phone more structurally equipped or make this worse?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.
