Apple Now Owns iPhone5.com

After filing a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) over the iPhone5.com domain, Apple has come out and said they won and now own the domain. If they didn’t name the “New iPad” the “iPad 3,” do you think they will name the next iPhone the iPhone 5? Owning this domain doesn’t necessarily mean the next iPhone will be called what we all think. This may be some sort of control to keep the conversations and rumors to a minimum.

Before you think that Apple official owns it, we want to let you in on some things. The domain was previously registered to a company in Australia. After the complaint was filed and won, the Australian company no longer “owns” the domain name. At the same time, Apple doesn’t technically own it. Well, who owns it? iPhone5.com now belongs to a Corporation Service Company in Wilmington, Delaware.

If you head over to iPhone5.com, you’ll notice that all you see is a bright white page. No landing page, no “under construction” notice or even a single note. This may be an elaborate plan to fool us all!

What do you hope Apple does with iPhone5.com? Would you like to see it forwarded to Apple? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Thinner 15-Inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

With the recent rumors of the possibility of an upgraded MacBook Pro, we have received specific information on the new 15-inch MacBook Pro’s design.

Sources are saying that the MacBook Pro will be considerably thinner than the existing MacBook Pro due to the removal of the optical drive. Instead of changing the physical design, it seems the MacBook Pro will be thinner than the previous version.

While many have speculated that the new 15-inch MacBook Pro will pickup the design from the late-2010/mid-2011 MacBook Air, sources familiar with the prototype units say that this is untrue. Instead, the new 15-inch MacBook Pro is described as being an ultra-thin version of the current MacBook Pro. Basically, the prototype design is a thinner, yet more robust, version of the late-2008 design. It has no tapering like the MacBook Airs.

With advances in technology and iOS, it seems to be that Apple will include a “Retina Display” on the next generation of MacBook Pros. This has been in the rumor mill for some time and evidence has been showing up in builds of OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. It probably won’t be a true Retina Display, just settings to take advantage of this new “HiDPI” support to select your desired combinations of sharpness and resolution.

You may also notice that USB 3.0 is starting to become popular in a lot of the new Windows machines. A recent report indicates that the USB ports on the new MacBook Pro will support USB 3.0. This has been a feature that many people are questioning if Apple will adopt given the move to Thunderbolt connectivity.

At the end of the day, these are just rumors for the upcoming announcement of the “new” MacBook Pro. What do you want to see in the upcoming MacBook Pro. Leave your thoughts in the comment section.

4G Branding Dropped from the New iPad

Apple has decided to drop the “4G” label on the all new iPad and replace it with the word “cellular.” The new iPad just received the new 4G label, so why on earth would Apple decide to just drop it?

Apple was marketing the device as a “4G” compatible device in the US and forgetting the other countries. Currently, it cannot connect to Australia’s 4G network or the 4G networks in other countries outside of North America. Australian regulators made a big complaint towards Apple due to the fact of its inability to connect as advertised.

If you head on over to the iPad’s website, you’ll notice all the marketing is still set for 4G LTE (at least here in the U.S.). Upon taking a walk into an Apple store, you’ll notice you’re only given the option to purchase a “Wi-Fi” model, or a “Wi-Fi + Cellular” model. No more 4G LTE!

Many consumers overlook what the term “4G” really means. It simply means that it can connect to a “4th-generation” data network faster than its 3G competitor. 4G does not stand for speeds, just stands for the next generation of speeds. Many U.S. manufacturers are using the 4G label on devices that are only capable “3.5G” speeds. Does this mean that we are calling all cellular manufacturers liars, no.

Wrap your mind around this; the new iPad is currently only capable of connecting to five true 4G networks, all of which are located in the U.S. or Canada. Is this a smart move for Apple? Leave your thoughts in the comment section.

iOS 6: Notes and Reminders to iCloud

It appears to be that Apple is testing a revised iCloud portal at beta.icloud.com that shows two addition icons for Notes and Reminders. In the most recently iCloud.com portal, you only see icons for Mail, Contacts, Calender, Find My iPhone, and iWork. Now you get those icons and Notes and Reminders. What does Apple have in store for us?

As we see, it’s still in beta and we don’t know what’s going to happen. Unfortunately, attempts to log in through the beta portal have been unsuccessful, as well as access to the portal becoming intermittent. Apple may be working on a significant enhancement to the iCloud services. Just a few days ago we saw  notifications being tested on the regular iCloud.com.

iPad Rumor: 7-inch iPad Coming in October

Once again, we have another iPad rumor for you. Yesterday, DigiTimes reported a new 7-inch iPad was in the works for an August release date. Now, iMore’s Rene Ritchie claimed Apple is actually targeting an October release date for a 7-inch iPad. Of course, this would make it seem that Apple is following the crowd with making smaller tablets, but what about the pricing? The rumors say the device will launch for $200-$300 and pack the Retina Display. If you consider the Retina Display and specs identical to the current iPads, the price is very cheap.

“Apple will be going forward with the 7-inch iPad, currently targeting an October 2012 release alongside the new iPhone, and – here’s the killer – at a $200-$300 price point… Our source has indicated, however, that the 7-inch iPad will be identical to the current 9.7-inch iPad, just scaled down. That seems to include a 2048×1536 resolution display, just like the new iPad. If accurate, that would put the pixel density at around 326ppi, the same as the iPhone 4S (and higher than the 264 ppi new iPad) retina display.”

The above quote was from Rene Ritchie’s source.

This would be great news for a lot of consumers looking for a new edge in technology. Apple will meet the low price point of around $250 (give or take) by offering the device with just 8GB of storage. With this storage amount, would it even be worth the purchase? Of course, this is only a rumor. With that being said, there is no solid evidence that Apple will create such a device for the public.

Test Drive a Cadillac From Your iPad

If you recently purchased a 2013 Cadillac XTS, then you’ve probably noticed you have a new iPad. For those of you who don’t know, when your purchase a new 2013 Cadillac XTS, you’ll receive a loaded iPad that includes Cadillac’s CUE app, My Cadillac app, and OnStar RemoteLink. Of course, you’ll have the ability to put other apps on the iPad.

The CUE app is basically an app that replicates many of the controls and features in the CUE center stack and provides tutorials and videos to learn your car. Basically, Cadillac wants to go more green and save less paper. It’s more like a car manual and gives you the ability to sit on your couch and “test drive” your new vehicle.

Don Butler, U.S. VP of Cadillac marketing, says the following:

“CUE is intuitive, bringing touch and voice controls into the car in a really unique and helpful way. With CUE becoming a signature feature of Cadillac, and with the launch of two entirely new cars – the XTS luxury sedan and ATS sport sedan – this is an opportunity for us to build a new level into the luxury customer experience.”

If you’re interested in purchasing this car, you’re going to have a wait a bit longer. The Cadillac XTS won’t be available until later this spring in North America. Check out the video below for more information.

What do you think about Cadillac giving new car owners the new iPad? Let us know your thoughts and comments.

Rumor: $799 MacBook Air to Fight Ultrabooks

With Ultrabooks getting popular and with Apple’s laptop models due for a refresh, could we expect a $799 model MacBook Air to compete?

As we all know, the MacBook Air has been a huge successful for Apple. It’s been so big that PC makers are trying to get caught up with Windows-based versions that are being called “Ultrabooks.” As of today, nothing has been able to catch Apple’s fiery, but if enough of them get out there, the sheer quantity could cause a headache for Apple.

According to DigiTimes, the new versions of the laptop will ship sometime in the third quarter of this year. If you do the math, the third quarter is basically around the corner. Also, Intel is one of the driving forces behind the Ultrabooks.

It seems like it would make sense for Apple to come out with a $799 version but they aren’t a company known for following the crowd. Looks like we will have to sit back and see what Apple has in store for us.

If they were to come out with a “cheaper” MacBook Air, would you purchase it? Let us know in the comment section.

Apple Announces WWDC: June 11-15

Apple has just announced it will host its Worldwide Developer Conference between June 11 through June 15 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

We have a great WWDC planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers.

The about quote was said by Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Is it possible that Apple could announce the next generation iPhone? It seems that Apple will be focusing on its software platforms. Either way we look at it, this WWDC will be great as we learn more about iOS and Mountain Lion.

If you plan on going to the event, be prepared to dish out a lot of cash as it will set you back $1,599 just to register.

12 Easy Steps to Unlocking an iPhone 4S

Unlocking an iPhone 4S is very simple and can be done in 12 easy steps. In order to complete the step-by-step tutorial, you will need the latest version of iTunes and a jailbroken iPhone. If you’re not sure what unlocking an iPhone means, it’s the process of modifying an iPhone’s software so that i can be operated through carriers other than its official carrier in a given country. In other words, if I have the Verizon iPhone 4S and want to sell it to someone on AT&T, I would have to unlock the device before the sale and tell the customer it’s an unlocked iPhone. Jailbreaking an iPhone simply means it is freed from the limitations by Apple for safety measures. Continue at your own risk!

If you are familiar with jailbroken iPhones, the following process should be straight forward:

Step 1: Go to Cydia, and then install Sam Bingner’s Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) package. It is also available at repo.bingner.com.

Step 2: Launch SAM by tapping the SAMPrefs icon.

Step 3: Go to utilities, and then select “De-Activate iPhone,” but make sure the iPhone is deactivated under “More Information.”

Step 4: With SAM enabled, select the “By Country and Carrier” in “Method,” and then find the iPhone’s carrier.

Step 5: Go to “More Information,” copy the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) in SAM Details, and then tap ”Spoof Real SIM to SAM.”

Step 6: Return to the main SAM screen, change the “Method” to manual, and then paste the copied IMSI string.

Step 7: Connect the iPhone to a computer and allow iTunes to essentially re-activate the device.

Step 8: Double tap the “Phone Number” parameter at the main device screen to ensure the ICCID matches the SIM card. Repeat from Step 1 and onward if there is not a match.

Step 9: Disconnect from the computer, and then quit iTunes when the reactivation process is finished.

Step 10: Disable SAM in the SAMPrefs app. Ignore the source article that instructs to uninstall SAM and delete the lockdownd folders.

Step 11: Connect the iPhone to the computer again. iTunes will appear and claim it cannot activate the iPhone.

Step 12: Close iTunes, and then open again. Upon launching, iTunes will activate the iPhone. The result—one unlocked iPhone!

This iPhone will only work with the SIM card employed during the above tutorial. iTunes will recognize the SIM’s ICCID belonging to the intended carrier. You will also be able to reboot the device without losing the unlock until Apple releases a counteracting firmware update. If for some reason push notifications stop working, open SAM and select “Clear Push.” You will want to reconnect to iTunes after doing so.

If you are looking to unlock your iPhone, do the following steps and leave your experiences in the comment section.

iPhone Represents Over Half of Verizon’s Smartphone Sales

Today, Verizon announced that they activated 3.2 million iPhones during the first quarter. According to Verizon, that’s over half of their smartphone sales and activation’s. In the previous quarter, the number is down 4.3 million iPhone which was part of Apple’s record-setting launch quarter.

Apple continues to rule the world of smartphones. After launching the iPhone 4S in China and expanding to China Telecom, Apple should maintain a strong iPhone momentum.

In the first quarter, Verizon managed to sell 6.3 million smartphones. If you do the math, the iPhone continues to represent over half of the carrier’s smartphone business. Do you think the iPhone will eventually slow down for continue to grow over the next year. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Draw Something Introduces New Features

With over 50 million downloads to the popular Pictionary-style game, it is finally receiving a much needed update for both iOS and Android. Something that has been in need from the start is the Undo Feature. Draw Something now features the Undo Button which allows you to erase the last brush stroke you made. I have found myself wanting this feature since day one. Using the eraser all the time was such a hassle.

Knowing that Social Media is a huge way for marketing, Draw Something brought Facebook and Twitter to the game. Now, you can post your drawings to your two favorite Social Media sites. The only down fall, it’s only for iOS users. Sorry to all you Android users.

The last big update is commenting. Now you have the ability to comment on ones drawings. Keep in mind that you should never put someone down for their drawing. Some people may not have the skill that you think you may have. Treat everyone with respect and you’ll be treated with respect back.

Another update that is worth mentioning is the ability to save drawings to your device. If you really enjoy the drawing, save it! This update is available now, so get those fingers ready and draw your next rainbow!

Walmart Outfits Stores with Apple Counters

Make no mistake; Walmart has been selling Apple products for quite the time. This is a case that seems to be different in the sense of making a section of Walmart look like a miniature Apple Store. A Walmart in Arkansas was spotted as the first location with new counters for their Apple Products.

The display is very similar to what you would expect from an Apple Store location: counters are made out of wood and there’s a bright sign that displays the iPhone and iPad loud and clear for possible new customers.

Is it possible that we may be seeing a lot more Walmart’s with big Apple sections inside locations? Target and Apple have also announced a partnership called “Shops at Target” in which Target will provide a dedicated Apple area.
